The Las Vegas Raiders remain the last team to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs, a streak dating back to last season. The reigning Super Bowl champions are currently 6-0 and seem poised to compete for another title.

Since that victory, the Raiders have struggled, sitting at a 2-5 record this season. A key factor in their win over the Chiefs last year was the performance of cornerback Jack Jones, who returned an interception for a touchdown off Patrick Mahomes.

While the Raiders may not pose a significant threat this season, the Chiefs are likely eager to avenge that loss. However, Jones emphasized that the team isn’t intimidated by Mahomes.

“I’m not intimidated by him,” Jones said of Mahomes. “I don’t think anybody in this locker room is intimidated by him. There are good players all across the league. He’s a good player, but we see guys every week. We’re more focused on us than we are on him.”

Although Mahomes is widely regarded as the NFL’s best quarterback, he hasn’t been at his best this season, throwing six touchdowns and eight interceptions in six games. If Jones can capitalize on Mahomes’ turnover issues, the Raiders might have a shot at another upset.

Patrick Mahomes on the Raiders Rivalry

The Chiefs have dominated their rivalry with the Raiders for years, but the intensity of the matchup remains strong. Despite Las Vegas being one of the league’s worst teams this season, Mahomes isn’t underestimating them.

He’s aware that the Raiders will bring their best against the Chiefs.

“We know we’re gonna get their best shot. I mean, that’s kind of how it’s been every single week,” Mahomes said during his October 23 press conference. “But obviously, when you play a divisional opponent, like I’ve said before, there’s a real rivalry between our two teams and our two organizations. You’re gonna get their best shot, and we’re gonna go out there and match that, and let the best team win.”

Mahomes on Kermit Video

While the Chiefs could easily overlook the Raiders due to their poor record, they’ve got plenty of motivation. Kansas City will want revenge for the Christmas Day loss, and there’s also the viral video from Raiders training camp where rookie safety Trey Taylor used a Kermit the Frog puppet resembling Mahomes.

Although fans and media have hyped up the video, Mahomes seems unfazed.

“I don’t know if you’d say it resonates with me,” Mahomes said. “I think just knowing that the competitive spirit they have on that side is going to match the competitive spirit we have, it’s going to be a fun football game. We’re going to get the best from every player on the field, and like I said, the best team will win.”

Ultimately, the Chiefs have a much more talented roster than the Raiders, making a Las Vegas win unlikely—even without giving Kansas City any added motivation.
