Lions Head Coach Dan Campbell Drops Alarming Injury Update

The Detroit Lions secured a dominant 24-6 victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, November 24, but their win was overshadowed by a series of injuries in the second half. It seemed as though a new Lions player was leaving the field every few minutes.

The most alarming injury came to Detroit Lions wide receiver Kalif Raymond, who sustained what was later confirmed as a foot injury during a punt return. Raymond was initially taken to the locker room, briefly returned to the sidelines, then was carried off the field again and ruled out for the remainder of the game.

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell provided an update on Raymond and the other players who suffered injuries during the game.

Dan Campbell Discusses Injuries

The players affected by injuries included Raymond, left tackle Taylor Decker, running back David Montgomery, and cornerback Carlton Davis.

“Honestly, a lot of this, I’m not sure yet,” Campbell said during his postgame press conference. “Obviously, Raymond and Montgomery. Decker was able to come back, but we pulled him again later in the game. As for Carlton, I’m not sure. I’m feeling okay about three of those guys.”

Campbell added, “Raymond could be a little more serious, but even with that, it doesn’t necessarily mean any of these guys will be ready for Thursday. We just don’t know yet.”

The fact that Campbell expressed concern over Raymond’s injury being “a little more serious” is worrying, and further updates will be expected in the coming days.

Regarding the other injuries, Decker experienced knee and ankle issues after Jared Goff was shoved into the back of his legs. Though Decker left the game temporarily, he quickly returned. Montgomery left the game at one point without his helmet and pads, but later returned to the sidelines in his uniform, although he did not play again. Davis sustained a left knee injury and did not return.

Positive Updates on David Montgomery

Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press provided a positive update on Montgomery, sharing on X, “Mostly positive injury updates from the Lions’ locker room. David Montgomery and Taylor Decker both said they’ll be good to go Sunday, November 24,yfe. Carlton Davis will know more after imaging tomorrow. Kalif Raymond remains the biggest concern.”

Eric Woodyard of ESPN also reported that Montgomery “expects to be ready to go on Thursday. He said it was a smart decision to rest him after the injury today.”

QqDespite the injury concerns, it’s positive news for fans that the Lions are now 10-1 for the season. After the win against the Colts, Detroit faces a short week with their annual Thanksgiving Day game on Thursday, where they’ll take on the Chicago Bears.
