The Detroit Lions are gearing up for one of their toughest challenges of the 2024 season in Week 15, as they host the 10-3 Buffalo Bills at Ford Field on Sunday. This showdown is among the most highly-anticipated matchups of the week.
One key battle to watch will be between Bills wide receiver Khalil Shakir, the team’s leader in receiving yards, and Lions cornerback Amik Robertson, both of whom primarily operate in the slot.
An NFL analyst has already weighed in on this specific matchup, predicting a big performance for Shakir against Robertson. However, upon hearing the analyst’s prediction, Robertson was quick to dismiss the idea.
Shakir has proven to be a challenging assignment for defenders this season. The 2022 fifth-round pick is enjoying a breakout year, leading the Bills with 65 receptions for 735 yards, while his three touchdowns are tied for second on the team.
Robertson has been reliable in the slot, though there’s room for improvement. A former fourth-round pick signed by the Lions in free agency, he has allowed completions on 61.7% of passes thrown his way, surrendering a passer rating of 94.2.
Robertson is part of an impressive trio of starting cornerbacks for Detroit, alongside rookie Terrion Arnold and veteran Carlton Davis, both of whom have excelled on the boundary this season.
In addition to Robertson versus Shakir, other intriguing matchups include Arnold and Davis going up against veteran wideout Amari Cooper and rookie Keon Coleman, who is set to return after missing four games with an injury.
On the flip side, the Lions boast a dynamic offense capable of causing problems for Buffalo’s defense, making this an evenly matched contest. With high-scoring potential, this game could turn into a shootout and emerge as the most thrilling contest of Week 15.
