Lions head coach Dan Campbell acknowledged on Monday that he is prepared for the possibility of losing offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn to head coaching positions. However, they may not be the only members of the staff departing this offseason.
Offensive line coach Hank Fraley is also a candidate for a new position. According to Dan Graziano of ESPN.com, Fraley is set to have a second interview with the Seahawks for their offensive coordinator vacancy on Tuesday. The upcoming meeting will take place in person, following an initial remote interview.
Seattle is also considering other candidates for the role, including Vikings assistant offensive coordinator/assistant quarterbacks coach Grant Udinski and Saints offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak.
Fraley, who spent a decade as an NFL player, has been part of the Lions’ coaching staff since 2018. After Saturday’s loss to the Commanders, Lions center Frank Ragnow expressed his strong desire to keep Fraley in Detroit.
“You can’t let Hank leave,” Ragnow said. “I haven’t played in this league without Hank, and I don’t plan on starting now. I’ll sabotage him, leak stories—whatever it takes.”
With Johnson expected to become the next head coach of the Bears, the Lions will need to fill their offensive coordinator role. Campbell noted that the team will consider both internal and external candidates for any vacancies, but it remains unclear if Fraley will be considered for a promotion within Detroit.
