Kate Martin Sends Eight-Word Message to Caitlin Clark After Iowa Return

Caitlin Clark returned to Carver-Hawkeye Arena during the WNBA offseason for her official jersey retirement. After a standout rookie season with the Indiana Fever, Clark went back to the place where she became a national sensation.

The Hawkeyes honored Clark by retiring her No. 22 jersey following their 76-69 upset victory over the No. 4 USC Trojans. During the ceremony, former teammate Kate Martin shared a photo from Carver-Hawkeye Arena and sent a heartfelt message to the Fever star.

“Into the rafters forever,” Martin wrote. “Proud of you CC.”

Martin attended the event alongside another former Hawkeye standout, Gabbie Marshall.

Clark and Martin played together at Iowa from 2020 to 2024, leading the Hawkeyes to consecutive Final Four appearances. Clark finished her four-year college career with remarkable averages of 28.4 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 8.2 assists per game. In her senior year, she became the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer—across both men’s and women’s basketball—with 3,951 points.

Following her historic college career, Clark made an immediate impact in the WNBA, earning Rookie of the Year honors and securing a spot as a WNBA All-Star. She led the Fever to a 20-20 record, placing them sixth in the league standings.

In her debut WNBA season, Clark averaged 19.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 8.4 assists per game.
