Brock Purdy will be paid a huge salary after San Francisco 49ers owner makes contract offer

San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York has confirmed that star quarterback Brock Purdy will receive a huge contract offer.

Purdy, 24, is eligible for a contract extension after next season and could be in line for the biggest raise in NFL history.

Purdy has earned just $1.9 million (about 150 million yen) in his first two years as a professional, but is expected to earn a further $985,000 (about £780,000) this season.

However, his annual salary is expected to skyrocket as his rookie contract ends.

Purdy led the 49ers to Super Bowl III in February, but lost 25-22 to the Kansas City Chiefs in overtime. To put Purdy’s current salary into perspective,

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes currently has a 10-year, $450m (£356.5m) contract with the Chiefs. That means Mahomes will earn around £35.6 million a year.

“When your quarterback is one of the highest-paid players on the team, in the league, that’s a good problem to have,” York told reporters at the NFL’s annual league conference on Tuesday.

That is the market. Block will ask for something. ”No one has ever asked for that before. I don’t know how many players are making over $40 million as a quarterback right now.

” There are currently 12 players earning more than $40m (£31.7m), with four earning more than $50m (£39.6m). The 49ers have reshaped the market before and appear ready to do it again.

York added: “When we signed Jimmy (Garoppolo) a few years ago (in 2018), it was the biggest three-minute contract in NFL history (a five-year deal worth $137.5 million/£108.9 million). It was,” he added.

But Jimmy was ($27.5m/£21.8m per year). This is the market and we have to accept the reality of the world.

To me, quarterback is the most important position not only in football but in all sports, and they should be making a lot of money.

Last season, the 14 highest-paid players were all quarterbacks. San Francisco edge rusher Nick Bosa ends a long waiting period just days before the end of the regular season,

agreeing to a five-year, $170 million (approximately £134.7 million) contract extension, ranking him 16th on this list.

It ended in This contract stands as a record for a defenseman in league history and shows the 49ers are willing to pay a lot of money to keep the team together.

But those decisions will ultimately depend on whether the front office gives York the authority to make decisions as general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan enter their eighth season together. “There’s a lot of planning going into this,” York continued.

“We’re happy to have (executive vice president of football operations) Parag (Marate), JL (Lynch) and Kyle.” They figure out the details and all I have to do is sign the check. My role is very simple. ”
