From Buckeyes Champion to NFL Prospect: Cleveland Browns Named a Quiet Landing Spot For Will Howard

The Ohio State Buckeyes are celebrating their championship victory after defeating Notre Dame just one week ago. Will Howard and his teammates achieved the goal they set at the start of the season.

Despite a season full of ups and downs, everything came together for the Buckeyes in the College Football Playoff, culminating in a historic run that the school will remember forever.

For Howard and many of the team’s stars, their college careers have now concluded. A significant number of players from this year’s roster will be suiting up in the NFL in 2025.

Howard has emerged as an intriguing player to watch during the 2025 NFL Draft process. While he hasn’t generated significant buzz as a pro prospect, his postseason performance with Ohio State could help boost his draft stock.

Interestingly, Howard has been linked to a potential opportunity to remain in Ohio for the next chapter of his career.

Cody Williams of FanSided has suggested that the Cleveland Browns could be a team to watch for Howard in the NFL Draft.

“The Browns quietly have a nice roster of skill position talent to make for a soft landing for Howard, along with a great offensive mind at head coach with Kevin Stefanski,” Williams wrote. “Put that all together, and the Browns making the hometown pick on Day 2 of the draft could be a dream scenario for all involved.”

Many Buckeyes fans would be thrilled to see Howard stay within the state. There is a strong overlap between Ohio State supporters and Browns fans.

Looking ahead, Howard could have an opportunity to develop into a starting quarterback for Cleveland down the line. The Browns are in desperate need of quarterback help and are expected to address the position through both the draft and free agency. Howard could represent a long-term solution as a young prospect.

During the 2024 college football season, Howard completed 73.1 percent of his passes for 4,010 yards, 35 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. On the ground, he added 226 yards and seven touchdowns.

Those impressive stats have made Howard an intriguing option for NFL teams.

While he isn’t projected to be a first- or second-round pick, Howard is expected to come off the board at some point during the draft. Cleveland could very well be a team to watch as a potential landing spot in the middle rounds.
