GOOD NEWS: 49er are expected to re sign 4 Free Agents

Plenty of decisions will be made by the San Francisco 49ers when free agency comes around in a little over two weeks. 21 decisions to be exact as that is how many players are slated to become free agents. Not everyone will be re-signed for various reasons. One of those reasons is because the 49ers will be prioritizing some over the others. Here are the four free agents that should be the top priority for the 49ers to bring back.

Javon Kinlaw’s career has been disappointing, even disappointing. However, this is mainly due to the constant injuries sustained. Last season was the first in which he was able to play a full season. And boy, did he prove to be a key player on defense. He will likely never get the impact of the first round in which the 49ers drafted him. But Kinlaw has proven he can make an impact on the 49ers with the way he commands and even disrupts double teams. Having a player like that is helpful for the 49ers. Kinlaw should also be able to return at a bargain price. I would imagine a one-year, $4 million deal with incentives will accomplish that goal and one the 49ers should covet. Given how he looked in his first full season, I would expect the deal to end up being a bargain and for Kinlaw to improve.

I never thought Clelin Ferrell would become a lovable role player for the 49ers, but that’s exactly what happened. He made me eat my words by being strong on defense and capable as a pass rusher. When he suffered a meniscus injury during the playoffs, his absence was felt. This shows that he is a player worth bringing backThe only concern is his injury and how he will recover, but that’s exactly why the 49ers should re-sign him. His cost will be about the same as when they signed him last year, which was $2.5 million. Maybe the 49ers will bump him up to $3 million or load him up with incentives. Regardless, Ferrell should be viewed as a key player for the 49ers to bring back to avoid further holes in the defensive line.

An argument can be made that Jon Feliciano has been the 49ers’ second-best offensive lineman this season. Being able to fill in at both left and right guard has been a lifesaver. Feliciano would ultimately hold down the right starting role, and that’s what the 49ers should be looking for in 2024. Spencer Burford isn’t the answer at the position, and while Feliciano isn’t the long-term answer either, he’s there at the very least unexpected event for the 49ers. This way the 49ers will be able to look to the draft for their future at that position. They’ve always had a solid offensive lineman and Feliciano is the guy they need to keep.

I have to admit that I was a little hesitant to mention Jauan Jennings here. First of all, he’s a restricted free agent, so it’s likely he returns. It all depends on the draft offer they submit. My guess is the 49ers will take Jennings in the second round. This will all but guarantee the 49ers his return. However, will they feel comfortable paying him nearly $5 million? He’s certainly worth it, if not more, but he is the 49ers’ third-best wide receiver and the recommended fifth/sixth option on offense. Jennings is kind of a luxury and not a necessity at this point. It really all depends on whether the 49ers feel they can take someone young or sign someone cheaper. But ultimately, I think they’ll try to bring him back and not regret it, rather than let him go.
