Jurgen Klopp has poured cold water on reports linking the Reds to a move for Kylian Mbappé this summer

“We laugh about it” – Jurgen Klopp on the new Kylian Mbappé at the request of Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp has poured cold water on reports linking the Reds to a move for Kylian Mbappé in his uniquely light-hearted style.

While arguably the best player in the world becomes embroiled in a transfer story for which no one seems to have a solution, reports have re-emerged of bold attempts to bring Mbappé to Anfield.

On this occasion a loan move is being proposed as the striker is desperate for a way out of PSG that will allow him to fulfill his dream of moving to Real Madrid next summer.

The Mirror reported on Saturday evening that the Frenchman had been targeted by the Red for a 12-month contract following news that he had rejected an offer from Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal.

Predictably, Klopp laughed off the latest rumors, revealing it’s something he jokes about at Liverpool, citing “financial circumstances” as the main reason why a deal wouldn’t be possible.

“We laugh about it. I can say that I think he is a very good player, but the financial circumstances don’t suit us at all,” Klopp told Sky Germany.

“I don’t want to spoil the story right now, but as far as I know, there’s nothing wrong.”

The Ligue 1 champions have said they will not give Mbappé any playing time next season if he refuses to renew his contract, which expires next summer.

He leaves the 24-year-old in desperate need of a new club, even on a temporary basis, to avoid a year on the sidelines.

Klopp joked higher powers at the club could “surprise” him with a spectacular signing but added it would be an unprecedented move based on his time at Merseyside.

He continued: “It’s possible that someone else at the club is preparing something and wants to surprise me, but that hasn’t happened in the eight years I’ve been here.

It would be the first time.”

The pool of clubs that could afford to sign a player of Mbappé’s qualities is extremely small, but the admiration with which he has spoken of Liverpool in the past makes the voice easy to summon in situations like this.

It’s always fun to dream, but it’s fair to say that we can rule out any possibility of seeing Mbappé in a red jersey next season!
