Kostas Tsimikas has signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool to extend his contract.

The Greece international joined the club in the summer of 2020, arriving after Andy Robertson was needed as a replacement at left-back.

In the first three seasons, he played a total of 61 times, and his time was divided between appearances in the Premier League and cup competitions.

Despite his lack of regular game time, Liverpool have extended Tsimikas’ time at the club, announcing that the defender has signed a new long-term deal which is said to run until 2027.

The Greek defender told Liverpool FC’s official website: “It keeps me fully motivated for the rest.

As I’ve said in many, many interviews, this team has many, many things to do together, and I wanted to be a part of it from day one.

The 27-year-old’s contract ran until 2025 but has now been extended.

The future of Tsimikas has been speculated all summer in light of the playing time and system change, which requires different qualities of the left back.

A popular member of the squad, the defining moment of Tsimikas’ Liverpool career so far is his penalty in the 2022 FA Cup final against Chelsea.

In the 2023/24 season so far, Tsimikas has only started one game in every Premier League match for the Reds and sat on the bench.

The bulk of his appearances this season are expected to come in the Europa League and early stages of domestic cup competition as Klopp rotates his squad.

Tsimika’s new deal is a somewhat surprising development given Liverpool’s needs and system changes, but at least it protects his value going forward.
