Liverpool must heed ‘cruel’ Europa League warning as Gary Neville is already embarrassed

Mikel Arteta has already sent Liverpool a clear warning ahead of the Europa League, while Gary Neville could be left confused by Man United’s prediction.

There were fears that the international break would halt Liverpool’s momentum, with the break coming at a disappointing time after the Reds produced a superb performance to beat Aston Villa 3-0.

Those concerns would only be exacerbated when Jurgen Klopp’s side put in a poor first-half performance at Wolves in their first return, but thankfully Liverpool changed after the break and fought back to win 3-1.

It’s a result that leaves the Reds with 13 points from a possible 15 in the Premier League, a better start than many would have expected given the complexity of the schedule and the team’s struggles last season.

However, Liverpool face a new challenge now that the Europa League kicks off on Thursday and the Carabao Cup next week.

Klopp’s men could now play three games around seven days apart in the near future, so the depth of his squad will be tested.

One advantage of playing in Europe’s second-tier club competition is that the German should be able to make more substitutions without jeopardizing the team’s chances of promotion, but the importance of pace must also be considered.
