Liverpool update: Sources in Germany expect the Reds to make a “late push” to sign the midfielder Ryan Gravenberch

With just a few days left in the transfer window, a potential Ryan Gravenberch deal may not mean the end of business for Liverpool.

Gravenberch currently looks the most likely name to make a late move to Anfield as the deadline approaches.

Sources in Germany expect the Reds to make a “late push” to sign the midfielder, who is currently unhappy with his limited playing time at the Allianz.

SPORT1 also reported that the Netherlands international wants to ensure he makes the Netherlands’ Euro 2024 squad, having missed out on a place at the World Cup despite being fully fit.

That means a move is possible until Friday’s deadline at 11pm (BST), with Liverpool and Man United both interested.

Wataru Endo’s arrival has left the Reds with just one place for a non-homegrown player in the squad to face the 2023/24 Premier League season.

Any player above the 17-man quota must have played for an FA member club for three years before their 22nd birthday or be born after 2001.

Gravenberch, only 21, would fall into the latter category and therefore leave room for further non-domestic signings in this window.

Things are not so easy in European competition, as Gravenberch would not be classified as under-21 in the Europa League.

The midfielder would have had to be at the club for at least two years to meet UEFA’s threshold, meaning he would have had to replace an existing squad member to play for the Reds in Europe.

It is likely to be a deal with Bayern Munich, who are currently linked with a move for Man United’s Scott McTominay.

Reports earlier this month suggested Liverpool were not looking to sign a new defensive midfield “specialist” with Endo.

Instead, the club are believed to be targeting a “multifunctional” midfield option, which Jurgen Klopp may believe Gravenberch fits into.
