Mohamed Salah quietly took another step that only 11 others have taken.

Mohamed Salah overtook Steven Gerrard in Liverpool’s all-time goalscoring charts on Saturday – while achieving a rare Premier League milestone.

It took two tries and sparked a debate over whether to step down, but Salah fired the rebound from a penalty at Anfield.

The goal gave Liverpool a 2-1 lead against Bournemouth and was on course for a 3-1 win. It was the Egyptian’s 187th goal in 307 games for the club.

This propelled him past Gerrard to become fifth in the club’s all-time leading goalscoring series, behind only Ian Rush (346), Roger Hunt (285), Gordon Hodgson (241) and Billy Liddell (228).

The only players to score 50 or more goals for Liverpool and have a better goals-per-game ratio than Salah (1.64) were Hodgson (1.56) and Luis Suarez (1.62).

In a nutshell, Salah is legendary and, after his first season at Anfield, defies claims that he was a one-season wonder.

This is reflected in Premier League history: Salah’s goal against Bournemouth was his 140th in the English top flight.

During his brief stint at Chelsea and now Liverpool, the 30-year-old registered 200 goals and assists in total, putting him in an exclusive 12-man squad.

According to Opta Analyst, Salah is the only current Premier League player on the list, which also includes Gerrard and Robbie Fowler.

Alongside Thierry Henry and Sergio Aguero, he is also one of only three foreign players to reach the 200-goal mark.

The top five are Alan Shearer (324 goals and assists combined), Wayne Rooney (311), Frank Lampard (279), Ryan Giggs (271) and Andy Cole (260).

Although he is currently under contract until 2025 with two seasons left, there is still every chance Salah could make the top five.

At the very least, he will almost certainly outpace Fowler (202), Gerrard (212) and Teddy Sheringham (221) this season, with the possibility that he could target Aguero (231).

It is unlikely Salah is unaware of this milestone as the number 11 is open about his mission to break every possible record on his way to success with Liverpool.
