Secrets Unveiled: How Jaguars’ Latest move can Reshape the Game

Discover the game-changing impact of the Jaguars’ mysterious new move.

Mac Jones, a former Bolles graduate and Jacksonville native, is set to join the Jacksonville Jaguars, with ESPN’s Adam Schefter reporting that the Jaguars will trade a sixth-round pick to the New England Patriots.

However, the trade is pending until the new league year commences on Wednesday and Jones passes a physical examination. Negotiations between the two teams reportedly centered around a sixth-round pick.

At 26 years old (turning 26 in September), Jones will likely serve as the backup to Trevor Lawrence, both of whom were first-round picks in the 2021 NFL Draft. While the Jaguars currently have veteran quarterback C.J. Beathard on the roster for another year, Jones’s arrival may lead to Beathard’s departure.

Jones was drafted 15th overall in 2021 after an impressive final season at Alabama. His rookie campaign in New England was notable, posting a 10-7 record as a starter while throwing for 3,801 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions.

However, Jones experienced a downturn in performance in 2022, going 6-8 in 14 starts and registering 2,997 passing yards, 14 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.

His final season with the Patriots in 2023 saw him start 11 games, winning just 2,120 yards with 10 touchdowns and 12 interceptions before being benched. The Jaguars will incur a cap hit of $2,785,412 for Jones and retain the option to exercise his fifth-year option, although this is unlikely.

With Jones now set to support Lawrence, the Jaguars are primed for a fresh start, providing additional security for Lawrence, who faced multiple injuries last season.
