A’ja Wilson, who propelled South Carolina to its first NCAA Championship, was honored by the program with a jersey retirement ceremony on Sunday. A 2018 graduate, Wilson was the Gamecocks’ first National Player of the Year and a four-time All-American. She also became the first three-time SEC Player of the Year in conference history. As the first No. 1 recruit to sign with South Carolina, Wilson led her hometown team to its first NCAA Final Four and National Championship before making history as the program’s first No. 1 overall draft pick, selected by the Las Vegas Aces.
Since joining the Sports & Entertainment Capital of the World, Wilson has built an illustrious career. She led the Aces to back-to-back WNBA championships in 2022 and 2023, earned three MVP awards, one WNBA Finals MVP, two Defensive Player of the Year honors, and six WNBA All-Star selections. Additionally, she has represented the USA and the Aces on the international stage, securing two Olympic gold medals and two FIBA World Cup titles.
