In an effort to put an end to the holdout, the Cowboys met with CeeDee Lamb’s representatives on Thursday, according to Calvin Watkins of Dallas Morning News.

Lamb is waiting for a contract extension. In an effort to close a deal, the two parties spoke over the phone on Thursday before the Cowboys left for their preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders on Saturday.

According to a person with knowledge of the negotiations who spoke to The Dallas Morning News, the Cowboys are giving the receiver just under $33 million a season.

It is unknown what Lamb is trying to find.

With an average salary of about $33 million each season, he would be the second-highest wide receiver in the NFL, behind Justin Jefferson of the Vikings ($35 million).

Lamb is also pushed past A.J. Brown of the Eagles ($32 million per season).

Jefferson inked the biggest non-quarterback contract in June, securing a four-year, $140 million contract with a $110 million guarantee.

For a non-quarterback, Lamb is not aiming for the biggest contract possible.

During the team’s inaugural news conference on July 27, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones stated that was what Lamb desired. However, Jones also stated that Lamb had responded to Jones, stating such was not the case.

Smith will be reevaluated today as he did not go to Las Vegas with the squad yesterday.

For the second preseason game against the Raiders, Cowboys defensive tackle Mazi Smith did not travel with the team due to an allergic reaction he had on Friday afternoon.

Smith has been evaluated by team authorities, who will reassess him on Saturday morning to see if he can participate in the game.

Cooper Beebe has converted his guard skills into effective center play.

Beebe is acing the eye test and going without a No. 2 pencil after receiving a ton of praise for how swiftly he is developed from head coach Mike McCarthy and the teammates.

He performed admirably against the Rams in his first-ever NFL preseason game during that exam. Now that the butterflies from his first formal game are gone, the remainder of his cocoon can and has started to shed.

“It was surreal going out there for my first preseason game,” he remarked. “.. Having gone through that event, it was a dream come true.

“It is obviously easier once you are in the game,” Beebe remarked. The playbook gets easier and shorter, but I believe I have been performing well. I have to keep working on a few odd looks here and there, but other than that, I think I am doing okay.

In order to succeed in his mission against Brock Hoffman, a deserving teammate, which remains unfinished as they prepare for their second preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders, Beebe had to improve his ball-snapping consistency, which was an area where he was lacking when he began training camp in Oxnard.

But thanks to his offseason perseverance, which included capturing pictures of his parents and family in the yard, and the extra work he is done in South California outside of practice, he is already so far ahead in the process that he appears at ease and is not overanalyzing things anymore.

The Cowboys are beginning to see some development on the offensive line after having multiple concerns heading into the offseason.

In Wednesday’s joint practice with the Los Angeles Rams, the starting offensive line for the Dallas Cowboys’ first-team offense consisted of just as many rookies as All-Pros.

For weeks, Tyler Guyton has been building for his position as the starting left tackle in Week 1. What was interesting, though, was Cooper Beebe’s move to center field as the starting lineup.

Head coach Mike McCarthy expressed his admiration for Cooper’s performance in the preseason game this week. “I felt he played both guard and center with good snaps. Going forward, we will provide Cooper with other opportunities with this first group. He is going to start working there. He deserves that chance.

Trey Lance’s increased playing time, the preseason debuts of running backs Deuce Vaughn and Royce Freeman, and the performances of rookie center Cooper Beebe and left tackle Tyler Guyton are a few of the areas of emphasis.

Vaughn’s hamstring issue kept him out of the first preseason game. In an effort to help him find a role that justifies his continued inclusion on the roster, the Cowboys are giving him a look at both slot receiver and running back. In addition, he will participate in kick returns.
