Insider: Pittsburgh Steelers To Negotiate  Cowboys Superstar in proposed mega trade deal in 2025

The Pittsburgh Steelers have added quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Justin Fields to their roster, but neither is seen as a long-term solution. Their current quarterback situation ranges from average to below par, leaving the team with the same question as they approach another offseason.

Could the Steelers aim high for a big-name quarterback in 2025?

If Pittsburgh doesn’t secure a high draft pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to select a franchise quarterback, they may explore free agency as a viable option. According to Over the Cap, the Steelers have more than $80 million in cap space for the upcoming season, making a potential move for a top quarterback feasible. Mike Florio, a sports commentator, suggests the Steelers could negotiate for Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott at a reduced price.

“Would they pay Dak’s market value?” Florio asks. He speculates that Prescott might be willing to accept less than market value, particularly if he decides to leave the Cowboys. After years of Jerry Jones pushing for a lower deal, Prescott might see an opportunity to join one of the Cowboys’ biggest AFC rivals, such as the Steelers, for a lower salary, just to stick it to Dallas.

But it’s important to manage expectations.

First, Dallas would need to allow Prescott to leave in free agency, which seems unlikely. Despite the slow pace of contract discussions, it’s hard to imagine the Cowboys letting their star quarterback walk away easily. Even if Prescott hits the open market, it’s doubtful that revenge against the Cowboys would be a priority for him.

Throughout his career, Prescott has maintained a professional demeanor, saying the right things and representing the Cowboys well. It’s unlikely he would sacrifice financial gains out of spite. Given his star-level performance, he’s expected to sign a contract in the range of $55-60 million per year.

Pittsburgh could potentially offer a deal in that range, but if they hesitate to pay top dollar in a competitive free agency market, their hopes of landing Prescott will likely fade. Without a willingness to set market-shattering terms, it’s unlikely Dak Prescott will be heading to Western Pennsylvania.
