Blockbuster Trade Proposal Lands Cowboys Bears’ QB – ESPN’s NFL insider

The NFL trade deadline is fast approaching, and while the Dallas Cowboys’ 2024 roster has several pressing issues that could push the team to make a move, Jerry Jones is at the helm, and a lack of action is often his default approach. It’s quite possible that no changes will be made.

However, if the Cowboys remain focused on winning this season, one area that clearly needs attention is their defensive line. The team has struggled to generate pressure on the quarterback, averaging just 2.3 sacks per game, which ranks 17th in the league.

Their run defense has fared even worse, allowing 859 rushing yards this season, placing them 27th in the NFL.

Cowboys in Need of Pass Rush Depth

With these issues in mind, ESPN’s NFL insider Jeremy Fowler recently mentioned that the Chicago Bears might be open to trading pass rusher Dominique Robinson. This news quickly caught the attention of Cowboys fans.

“The Bears are also exploring trade options for pass rusher Dominique Robinson, who might benefit from a fresh start elsewhere. Teams like the Cowboys, Cardinals, and Commanders are all in need of pass rush help,” Fowler reported.

Robinson, a fifth-round pick in 2022, has dropped to third on the depth chart after Chicago acquired Montez Sweat. Originally a wide receiver at Miami (Ohio), Robinson has the raw athleticism and potential but still requires development to reach his ceiling as an edge rusher.

NFL.com’s scouting report highlights Robinson’s potential, describing him as a “former wideout turned pass rusher with the physical tools to build a successful career as either a 3-4 outside linebacker or 4-3 defensive end.” His quickness, athleticism, and ability to get around the edge have impressed scouts, despite his limited experience.

The Cowboys’ defensive end rotation has been impacted by injuries, with Micah Parsons banged up (though expected to return soon), DeMarcus Lawrence (foot) showing signs of wear at 32, and rookie Marshawn Kneeland sidelined until November with a knee injury. Chauncey Golston has performed well but could use additional support.

While Robinson has significant long-term potential, the Cowboys face a more immediate challenge, raising questions about whether he would be a good fit for their short-term needs.
