Just in: Lions Signed Ex-Pro Bowl WR with 1,250 Yards, 80 Catches and 14 TDs to Active Roster

The Detroit Lions made two roster moves on September 26. The team announced on X (formerly Twitter) that they signed wide receiver Allen Robinson to the active roster and linebacker Abraham Beauplan to the practice squad.

Robinson initially joined the Lions’ practice squad after being released by the New York Giants on roster cutdown day. The Lions promoted him to the active roster ahead of their Week 3 game against the Arizona Cardinals.

After a brief return to the practice squad, Robinson is now set to remain on the Lions’ active roster.

Robinson has had three 1,000-yard receiving seasons during his NFL career. In 2015, he caught 80 passes for 1,400 yards and a league-high 14 touchdowns, earning a Pro Bowl selection while with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Beauplan will now fill Robinson’s spot on Detroit’s practice squad. The linebacker had been with the Lions during the preseason but was released on August 27.

Last season, Beauplan signed with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent.

Lions Sign WR Allen Robinson to Active Roster

Robinson made his 2024 debut with the Lions in Week 3, though he played just one offensive snap and did not participate on special teams. Still, Robinson adds more depth to Detroit’s receiving corps moving forward.

With his addition, the Lions now have six wide receivers on the active roster. In addition to Robinson, the team features Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, Kalif Raymond, Isaiah Williams, and Tim Patrick.

Robinson is versatile, capable of playing both outside and in the slot. Last season, he recorded 34 receptions for 280 yards, but his value as a blocker was notable during his time with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Over the last three seasons, the 31-year-old has averaged no more than 10.8 yards per catch. His last 500-yard receiving season came in 2020, when he posted 102 receptions for 1,250 yards and six touchdowns for the Chicago Bears.

A second-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, Robinson spent four seasons with the Jaguars (2014-17), followed by stints with the Chicago Bears (2018-21), Los Angeles Rams (2022), and Pittsburgh Steelers (2023).
