The Detroit Lions have made two notable roster moves, bolstering their depth as the season progresses. The team announced the signing of linebacker Kwon Alexander to the practice squad, along with the elevation of defensive back Morice Norris to the active roster.
Alexander, 30, has had an eventful NFL career since being selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL Draft. He spent four productive years in Tampa Bay, playing out his rookie contract worth $2.75 million. In 2019, Alexander secured a lucrative four-year, $54 million deal with the San Francisco 49ers, solidifying his reputation as a dynamic defender.
Midway through the 2020 season, the 49ers traded Alexander to the New Orleans Saints in exchange for linebacker Kiko Alonso and a conditional fifth-round draft pick. However, his tenure in New Orleans was cut short after he suffered an Achilles injury late in the year, leading to his release. Alexander returned to the Saints on a one-year deal in 2021, followed by a stint with the New York Jets in 2022.
In 2023, he joined the Pittsburgh Steelers during the offseason but eventually signed with the Denver Broncos’ practice squad in September 2024. The Lions recently signed him away from Denver to add experienced depth to their defense.
This season, Alexander has played in three games for the Broncos and two for the Lions, amassing 12 tackles, one forced fumble, and one recovery. His addition strengthens Detroit’s linebacker corps for the stretch run.
