One Detroit Lions player faced a fine following Sunday’s Week 16 win against the Chicago Bears.
Wide receiver Jameson Williams was fined $11,255 for a taunting penalty.
The penalty came after Williams’ first catch of the game when he went out of bounds on the Bears’ sideline and spun the ball while returning to the field. Despite the penalty, he had an outstanding performance, recording a career-high 143 yards and a touchdown on five catches.
The Lions are now preparing to face the 49ers, a team dealing with injuries to key players like Christian McCaffrey and Dre Greenlaw. However, San Francisco still has plenty of weapons capable of challenging the Lions’ defense.
In response, defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn is stressing the need for toughness to counter the 49ers’ run-heavy approach.
“I think it first starts off with the mentality of how they go about doing things,” Glenn explained. “We know they’re going to run it, they know they’re going to run it, and their mindset is, ‘You’re going to have to stop it.’ It’s a tough system that demands tough players who are disciplined in their assignments.
“If you look at last year’s game, I thought we did a really good job early on, but their players began to will themselves into making plays. That’s what we have to do this game—our top players need to outwill their top players. I’m excited to see our guys rise to that challenge.”
