NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported, “The [Seattle] Seahawks are hiring [New Orleans] Saints OC Klint Kubiak as their new offensive coordinator, sources told The Insiders. After an exhaustive process, Seattle and coach Mike Macdonald land their top choice.”
Jets Were Interested in Kubiak
Following the announcement of Aaron Glenn’s hiring as Jets head coach, SNY’s Connor Hughes revealed that the Jets had been in contact with Klint Kubiak about potentially becoming their offensive coordinator.
Kubiak, 37, served as the New Orleans Saints’ offensive coordinator last season. Before that, he held the same role with the Minnesota Vikings in 2021.
Kubiak’s football lineage is notable—his father, Gary Kubiak, is a four-time Super Bowl champion, winning one as head coach of the Denver Broncos and three as an assistant coach.
For Glenn, choosing the right offensive coordinator will be a critical decision. As a defensive-minded head coach, Glenn will need to address the Jets’ ongoing struggles on offense—a glaring issue for the team over the past 14 seasons.
The Jets also face uncertainty at the quarterback position. Will Aaron Rodgers return in 2025? If so, will he adapt to a new offensive coordinator’s system? And if Rodgers doesn’t return, what’s next for the team?
The Jets’ current quarterbacks, Tyrod Taylor and rookie Jordan Travis, don’t inspire much confidence under a new regime. Additionally, the external quarterback options available this offseason seem underwhelming. Hiring an experienced or high-upside offensive coordinator could provide reassurance for Jets fans and unlock the potential of the team’s offensive weapons.
Jets Have Their Eyes on Another
Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic previously reported on X (formerly Twitter) that Los Angeles Rams tight ends coach and passing game coordinator Nick Caley “is [the Jets’] top target.”
NFL Insider Benjamin Allbright later confirmed this on the “Boy Green Meets Wudi” podcast.
However, there’s been a delay in the process. The Rooney Rule requires NFL teams to interview at least two external minority candidates before hiring head coaches, general managers, or coordinators.
“They have to conduct interviews before hiring anyone. Those should start in the coming days,” Rosenblatt explained on Sunday, January 26.
With multiple teams across the league searching for offensive coordinators, the Jets are competing in a crowded market.
Front Office Option Off the Table
The Jets also missed out on a potential front-office candidate.
Rosenblatt had suggested Dave Ziegler as “a name to keep an eye on.” However, Ziegler accepted the assistant general manager role with the Tennessee Titans, eliminating him from consideration for the Jets.
