Philadelphia Eagles coach Nick Sirianni found himself in a heated exchange with his own fans on Sunday.
Frustrated by last season’s collapse, Eagles fans booed the team off the field despite their win over the Cleveland Browns.
Some of the more vocal fans even began chanting ‘Fire Nick!’, while social media buzzed with jokes about whether a coach could be fired at halftime.
The pressure has been mounting on Sirianni this season following last year’s disappointment, when the Eagles went from Super Bowl hopefuls to an early playoff exit.
Entering Sunday’s game against the Browns with a 2-2 record and still winless at Lincoln Financial Field, the Eagles managed to scrape out a 20-16 victory.
Footage captured Sirianni engaging with a section of home fans seated behind the sideline as the game wound down. He cupped his hand to his ear, shouted something in their direction, and then walked away.
Despite not winning over the crowd, the Eagles secured the victory thanks to a crucial fourth-quarter touchdown from DeVonta Smith.
Quarterback Jalen Hurts passed for 264 yards and two touchdowns, including a 45-yard go-ahead strike to Smith in the final quarter.
Hurts also connected with A.J. Brown for a 22-yard touchdown. Both wide receivers were back in action after missing time due to injuries.
With the Browns trailing 20-13, they drove into Eagles territory late in the game but had to settle for a 31-yard field goal from Dustin Hopkins.
The Eagles regained possession with 3:54 left and didn’t allow Cleveland another chance, with Hurts hitting Brown for a 40-yard gain to close out the game.
Sirianni had promised changes after the bye week, debuting a bold new haircut.
On the field, however, the Eagles showed familiar struggles, failing to consistently involve their star receivers and delivering inconsistent execution.
