The Seattle Seahawks have secured their top candidate for offensive coordinator, hiring Klint Kubiak away from the New Orleans Saints.
NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport broke the news, tweeting, “The [Seattle] Seahawks are hiring [New Orleans] Saints OC Klint Kubiak as their new offensive coordinator, sources told The Insiders. After an exhaustive process, Seattle and coach Mike Macdonald land their top choice.”
Kubiak’s Track Record
Kubiak, 37, served as the New Orleans Saints’ offensive coordinator last season. He previously held the same position with the Minnesota Vikings in 2021, further solidifying his reputation as a rising offensive mind.
Football success runs in Kubiak’s family. His father, Gary Kubiak, is a four-time Super Bowl champion, winning one as the head coach of the Denver Broncos and three more as an assistant.
For head coach Mike Macdonald, bringing in Kubiak is a major step in shaping the Seahawks’ offense. Seattle has a solid foundation of talent, but with Geno Smith’s future uncertain and young quarterback Devin Leary waiting in the wings, an experienced offensive coordinator will be key to maintaining success.
Seahawks’ Offense in Transition
The Seahawks have been searching for an offensive identity since the departure of Russell Wilson. Geno Smith’s resurgence has been a bright spot, but questions remain about whether he will return in 2025 or if the team will hand the reins to Leary.
Seattle boasts plenty of offensive firepower with receivers DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, along with the emergence of Kenneth Walker III in the backfield. Kubiak’s hire signals a commitment to unlocking the full potential of these weapons.
Beating Out Competition
The Seahawks weren’t the only team eyeing Kubiak. After Aaron Glenn’s hiring as head coach of the New York Jets, SNY’s Connor Hughes revealed that the Jets had been in contact with Kubiak for their offensive coordinator role.
However, Seattle ultimately emerged victorious in securing his services. The competition for offensive coordinators across the NFL has been fierce, and landing Kubiak is a significant win for the Seahawks.
Eyes on the Future
Now that their top candidate is in place, the Seahawks can turn their focus to refining their offensive strategy for 2025 and beyond. With Kubiak at the helm, Seattle has positioned itself to remain competitive in a challenging NFC landscape.
