Officials in Harris County have released updated information regarding the series of events that led to the death of former LSU football player Kyren Lacy.

In a statement issued Sunday evening, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office outlined the timeline of the incident.

At approximately 11:15 p.m. on Saturday, deputies from Harris County Precinct 4 responded to a disturbance call involving a firearm.

The caller stated that she had been involved in an argument with a family member who had fired a gun into the ground. That individual was later identified as 24-year-old Kyren Lacy.

When deputies arrived on the scene, Lacy had already left. Authorities then issued a broadcast describing his vehicle to nearby law enforcement agencies.

At around 11:35 p.m., officers located Lacy’s vehicle. When they attempted to initiate a traffic stop, Lacy fled, prompting a pursuit that extended several miles. His vehicle eventually crashed in the 25900 block of Aldine Westfield.

When deputies approached the crashed vehicle to make an arrest, they discovered that Lacy had sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Homicide and Crime Scene Units with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office conducted an investigation. Preliminary findings suggest that Lacy shot himself during the pursuit, prior to the crash.

A firearm was recovered from inside the vehicle. Reviews of body camera and dashboard footage from Precinct 4 officers showed no evidence that any shots were fired following the crash.

The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences will perform an autopsy on Lacy. Authorities continue to investigate the incident, as is protocol when a death occurs during an attempted arrest.
