Steve Nicol gives clear verdict as Liverpool face new problems

Andy Robertson was ruled out with a shoulder injury during the international break, leaving Liverpool with another defensive problem.

Steve Nicol has raised concerns about Liverpool’s defensive options with Kostas Tsimikas replacing Andy Robertson.

The Reds full-back is likely to be sidelined for some time with a suspected shoulder injury.

Robertson was sent off just before half-time in Scotland’s 2-0 defeat to Spain earlier this week after colliding with goalkeeper Unai Simon.

Tsimikas could be poised to extend his place in Liverpool’s starting XI for the first time in his career after failing to dethrone the former Hull City defender.

The Greek international showed off his ability as a full-back this week, providing an assist in Greece’s win over the Republic of Ireland.

This season, the 27-year-old has already missed out on Leicester City in the Carabao Cup and also appeared in the Europa League wins against LASK and Union Saint Giroise, but the 27-year-old has played in all of his appearances. I struggle with it sometimes.

However, former Liverpool defender Nicol is not convinced by Tsimikas’ defensive ability and has expressed concerns about Anfield’s “Achilles’ heel”.

“It’s certainly not a good time for him or for Liverpool. “We talked about Liverpool’s back four being their Achilles heel,” he told ESPN.

“But one of the better defenders with an Achilles heel was Robertson. He was as consistent as anyone in the back four.”

“So it’s a total disaster for Liverpool. Now Tsimikas has to play. And he’s not a particularly good defender.”

“They currently start with two full-backs in Alexander-Arnold and Tsimikas, and the biggest part of their game is going forward rather than defending. This is not good.”
