The 49ers Fired the $6.75m CB

The San Francisco 49ers are currently recovering from a tough Super Bowl loss, but the organization is already preparing for next season. According to the 49ers’ official website, the team is currently making some changes to its roster, starting with the release of cornerback Isaiah Oliver.

A second-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Oliver spent his entire career with the Atlanta Falcons before signing with the 49ers last year. The 27-year-old appeared in 17 games in 2023/24, totaling 67 tackles (48 solo and 19 assisted), two passes defended and one interception.

However, Isaiah Oliver did not lose a single game in the postseason. However, he appeared in 35 special teams snaps. The cornerback was fired after just completing the first season of his two-year, $6,750,000 contract with the 49ers. For the 49ers, this offseason is shining a positive light on the core of the team.

San Francisco’s free agent roster is not currently comprised of high-priority players. That means the team will have another opportunity next season with almost as many big name players. But there’s nothing wrong with making a little change here and there.

One ongoing problem for the 49ers to start with is their offensive line. Brock Purdy desperately needs more protection and the line ranked 26th in pass defense last season. Additionally, deeper rotation of defenders would help further the 2024 campaign.

All things considered, the 49ers’ free agency and other offseason decisions will undoubtedly impact whether the team returns to the big stage next year.
