Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen led his team to a significant victory over the Miami Dolphins on Thursday Night Football, but his focus after the game was on Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
Tagovailoa was forced out of the game with a concussion, raising concerns about his future in the NFL. The injury occurred in the third quarter when Tagovailoa scrambled for a first down and dove, colliding with Bills safety Damar Hamlin.
After being taken to the locker room, it was confirmed that Tagovailoa had suffered a concussion.
Following the game, Allen expressed his concern for Tagovailoa. “If you know Tua outside of football like I do, you can’t help but feel for him,” Allen said during the Prime Video postgame show. “He’s an incredible player, but an even better person. I have a lot of love for him and his family, and I’m praying for them and hoping everything turns out okay.”
Concerns Grow Over Tua Tagovailoa’s Future
Tua Tagovailoa’s history with concussions continues to be a major concern, as he has now suffered three in the last three NFL seasons. Bleacher Report’s Adam Wells highlighted that Tagovailoa missed significant time due to concussions in the 2022 season, including a crucial playoff game against the Buffalo Bills.
“Tagovailoa suffered two diagnosed concussions during the 2022 season, which sidelined him for four games,” Wells reported. “One of these concussions happened in a Week 16 loss to the Green Bay Packers, but he played the entire game, and it wasn’t until the next day that he was placed in concussion protocol.”
It remains uncertain how long Tagovailoa will be out following his latest injury. Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel explained that the quarterback would undergo further medical evaluations on Friday.
“The last thing I’m thinking about is, ‘What’s the timeline?’ Right now, we just need to focus on evaluating and supporting our teammate, like the rest of the guys are,” McDaniel told ESPN. “We’ll have more information tomorrow and take it day by day.”
Veteran quarterback Skylar Thompson stepped in for Tagovailoa and, like Josh Allen, expressed his support for the injured quarterback.
“I have a lot of love for Tua; we’ve built a great relationship,” Thompson told ESPN. “You care more about the person than the player, and everyone in this organization feels the same. We’re all praying for Tua and hoping for the best.”
Prayers and Support for Tagovailoa
Many others joined in sending well wishes to Tagovailoa. Bills safety Damar Hamlin, who collided with Tagovailoa during the game, took to social media to wish him a quick recovery.
“My love and prayers with Tua fasho.. Sending you strength and healing for a speedy recovery,” Hamlin posted on X. “Much love broski.”
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes also shared his support, posting a series of praying emojis on X.
