Detroit Lions defensive back Brian Branch had a tough week, which worsened after he was fined for two separate hits during the team’s Week 3 victory over the Arizona Cardinals. Branch was forced out of the game and placed in concussion protocol following a helmet-to-helmet collision with Cardinals tight end Trey McBride.

The NFL fined him $10,128 for unnecessary roughness for this hit. He received an additional $10,128 fine for another hit earlier in the game on a field goal attempt involving tight end Tip Reiman.

The Lions’ 20-13 win came with more consequences, as safety Kerby Joseph and linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin were also fined for separate incidents.

Additionally, center Frank Ragnow suffered a partially torn pectoral but was able to finish the game, though he will miss the upcoming Monday Night Football contest against the Seattle Seahawks.

Lions tight end Sam LaPorta was also injured but is expected to play on Monday.

Despite the fines and injuries, Branch is showing signs of recovery.

He returned to practice and is nearing the end of concussion protocol, putting him on track to play in the Lions’ upcoming game. Branch has started all three games this season, recording seven tackles and one interception.
