Jets Still Leading the Race for Davante Adams

The New York Jets remain the top contenders for Adams, according to Russini, who noted that the Jets are “all-in” on their 2024 campaign and could be the Steelers’ main competition.

“New York has had its eye on Adams since last year, and now they have a real opportunity,” Russini stated. “Trade discussions could intensify next week as Aaron Rodgers has made it clear to owner Woody Johnson, GM Joe Douglas, and coach Robert Saleh that he wants his former teammate in green.”

“The Jets have been in communication with the Raiders throughout the week,” she added, “and while they don’t seem rushed, both the Raiders and Adams are eager to move things forward.”

Although Adams reportedly likes the idea of reuniting with Rodgers, Russini noted he has reservations about the QB’s long-term future in New York.

Russini also mentioned the New Orleans Saints, Buffalo Bills, and Kansas City Chiefs as possible landing spots for Adams.

The Saints are a personal preference for the wide receiver due to his “close relationship” with quarterback Derek Carr and wide receivers coach Keith Williams. However, the Saints, with Just $2.95 million in available cap space, are seen as a financial longshot.

As for the Bills and Chiefs, Russini reported that both teams are “monitoring the situation” and might make a move if the Raiders are willing to cover part of Adams’ contract, viewing him as a potential “one-year rental.” She also confirmed that the Dallas Cowboys are out of the race due to financial constraints.

Steelers in Need of WR Support Behind George Pickens

The Steelers are clearly in search of another wide receiver to support George Pickens. So far, tight end Pat Freiermuth has been the second most reliable target for quarterback Justin Fields.

Third-year receiver Calvin Austin III has been a pleasant surprise with 7 catches for 125 yards and a touchdown, but his performance has been inconsistent across the first four games.

Outside of a standout 95-yard performance in Week 3, Austin has not caught more than one target in any other 2024 game, making his impact less consistent than desired.

Adams would bring the steady presence Pittsburgh needs. His addition would draw significant attention from opposing defenses, giving Pickens more room to operate, while Austin — or potentially rookie Roman Wilson — could slide in as a deep-threat option.
