Cowboys’ QB Dak Prescott Break Silence on Last-Minute Heroics 70-Yard Drive

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott summed up the team in two powerful words following their Week 5 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Cowboys emerged from Acrisure Stadium on Sunday, October 6, with a dramatic 20-17 win. With just 20 seconds left in the game, Prescott connected with wide receiver Jalen Tolbert for a touchdown, capping off a 70-yard drive that sealed the win.

Reflecting on the victory, Prescott used two key words to define the Cowboys’ performance: “persistence” and “resilience.”

Dak Prescott Reflects on Cowboys’ Week 5 Win

Prescott described the team’s attitude during the game and their ability to pull off the last-minute win: “The team really showed it there, on that drive,” he remarked in the post-game press conference.

Speaking on Tolbert’s game-winning touchdown, Prescott added, “Thankfully, we had the fourth down, and it was special to get the ball back to Tolbert. He did an incredible job coming across the field and getting open. The offensive line also stepped up, giving me time to stay in the pocket.”

However, Prescott also acknowledged some of the team’s struggles, particularly an interception he threw just before halftime.

“We just wanted a chance,” he said. “I was frustrated about that two-minute drive before halftime—throwing an interception when we could have easily gotten points, at least three, if not a touchdown. The two-minute drill is something I thrive on, so being down four points and knowing we needed a touchdown gave us all the motivation we needed.”

Prescott emphasized the importance of practicing high-pressure situations like the one that led to the game-winning touchdown, noting the team’s readiness to perform under stress.

“We practice those scenarios a lot,” he explained. “Probably as much as, if not more than, any team in the league. We’re all comfortable with the plays being called in those moments.

Whether it was my run to the half-yard line or Rico Dowdle trying to punch it in for me, we stress the importance of following the ball. That’s why those moments in practice pay off.”

Cowboys Shift Focus to the Detroit Lions

Next up, the Cowboys face the Detroit Lions on Sunday, October 13, at home. Head coach Mike McCarthy made it clear the team was already moving on from the Steelers win.

“We’re focused on the Lions now,” McCarthy said during an October 7 press conference. “We’ve turned the page. Monday is about preparing for the next challenge, and we’ve got to win a home game.

We used to be pretty good at home, and we’ve been emphasizing the importance of winning on the road, but now it’s time to get that first home win.”
