Detroit Lions star Aidan Hutchinson suffered a devastating injury during his team’s blowout win over the Dallas Cowboys in Week 6.
The NFL’s sack leader, Hutchinson, broke both his tibia and fibula after colliding with a teammate while attempting to tackle Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.
Following the injury, Hutchinson underwent immediate surgery, which involved inserting a rod into his leg.
Initial reports from the team indicated only a broken tibia, but further details confirmed both bones in his leg were fractured.
While there was hope from some close to Hutchinson that he could potentially return for the playoffs if the Lions make a deep run, medical experts suggest a recovery timeline of 6-8 months, which makes his return this season highly unlikely.
Hutchinson was having a stellar season, leading the NFL with 7.5 sacks, and his absence will be a major blow to Detroit’s defense.
Head coach Dan Campbell acknowledged the tough loss, stating that Hutchinson was in good hands post-surgery but will be out for an extended period.
