Dan Campbell Hint Detroit Lions’ receiver Jameson Williams will not appeal suspension

There’s rarely a “normal” week for the Detroit Lions, and this one proved no different. On Monday night, ESPN Lions beat reporter Eric Woodyard broke the news that Lions receiver Jameson Williams could be facing a suspension for violating the NFL’s Performance Enhancing Substances policy.

Since then, the handling of the situation has felt unusual compared to typical suspensions. While the news emerged Monday night, the NFL notably left Williams off their daily transaction wire, which usually lists suspensions. Instead, they reported a suspension for Commanders cornerback Kevon Seymour.

Adding to the mystery, Lions head coach Dan Campbell appeared on 97.1 The Ticket Tuesday morning. While he couldn’t share many details, Campbell’s words hinted that the suspension might not be finalized.

“I can’t really say anything about it until the league gives judgment and it comes out on their end,” Campbell said. “We’ll be fine; we’ll move on if this thing comes down, if it does, when it does come down, we’ll be fine.”

Campbell’s phrasing raised questions about the certainty of a suspension. Williams then practiced with the Lions on Wednesday amid reports he was considering an appeal.

However, by Thursday, Williams announced he would not appeal and would accept the suspension. He and his agency released a statement.

So, unfortunately, Williams will be absent for the next two games. He’s set to return for the Lions’ Sunday Night Football matchup against the Texans in two weeks.

With Williams sidelined, a resurgence from Allen Robinson may be on the horizon for the Lions.
