Patrick Mahomes has set yet another NFL record, something he seems to do several times each season.
In the Kansas City Chiefs’ Week 8 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders, where they triumphed 27-20, Mahomes became the fastest quarterback in NFL history to reach 30,000 career passing yards. He achieved this milestone in just 103 games, surpassing Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, who previously held the record at 109 games. With a total of 30,075 passing yards, Mahomes currently ranks 55th among all NFL quarterbacks, and if he stays healthy, he’s likely to climb quickly up that list as his career progresses.
If Mahomes maintains his 2024 average of 235 passing yards per game, he’s on track to catch AFL legend John Hadl, who ranks 40th, by the end of the season. Mahomes posted 262 yards against the Raiders on Sunday, marking his third-highest total this season. With the recent addition of wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, his numbers should see a boost.
Despite this milestone, Mahomes has been off to the slowest statistical start of his career in 2024. Even so, he continues to deliver big plays in crucial moments, leading Kansas City to win after win. As Hopkins finds his role in the offense, he’ll not only give Mahomes a top-tier receiving target but also create more opportunities downfield for speedy rookie Xavier Worthy.
