Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Demarcus Robinson was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence following Sunday Night Football, according to a report from TMZ Sports published Monday, November 25.
The report states Robinson was pulled over “shortly after 5 AM” on Monday for allegedly driving over 100 miles per hour. He refused field sobriety tests, which led to his arrest.
“An officer observed Robinson’s white Dodge sedan speeding at the alarming rate,” the report reads. “The officers conducted a traffic stop and noticed Robinson appeared to show signs of impairment, raising suspicions that he was under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor DUI and transported to a station for processing.”
Robinson reportedly mentioned his profession and team to officers during the arrest. He was released to a “responsible party” after being cited and has not responded to requests for comment.
Robinson caught two passes for 15 yards and a touchdown on three targets during the Rams’ 37-20 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday Night Football.
Robinson’s Impact in 2024
Demarcus Robinson, Isaiah Rodgers, Los Angeles Rams
Demarcus Robinson #15 of the Los Angeles Rams catches a touchdown pass in front of Isaiah Rodgers #34 of the Philadelphia Eagles.
Originally drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, Robinson played six seasons in Kansas City, winning a Super Bowl after the 2019 season. He spent the 2022 season with the Baltimore Ravens before joining the Rams.
Robinson has been a crucial player for the Rams in 2024, starting 11 games and setting a new career high in starts. With injuries to star wideouts Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua, Robinson has stepped up, tallying 26 receptions for 384 yards and six touchdowns through Week 12.
On a one-year, $4 million contract, Robinson has earned $11.7 million over his career. He leads the Rams in receiving touchdowns and ranks among the team’s top four in targets, receptions, and yards. His 14.8 yards per reception ranks 20th among qualified players and 15th among those with at least 50 targets, according to Pro Football Reference.
Potential Opportunity for Rams’ Rookie Wideout
Jordan Whittington #88 of the Los Angeles Rams warms up before a game against the New England Patriots.
Robinson’s arrest could impact his availability, whether through a league suspension or team action, which would be a significant blow to the Rams’ offense.
However, it could open the door for other wideouts to step up. Young veterans Tutu Atwell and Tyler Johnson are logical candidates given their experience. Atwell, 25, has 30 receptions for 423 yards, while Johnson, 26, has 22 catches for 256 yards. Neither has scored a touchdown this season.
Rookie sixth-round pick Jordan Whittington could also emerge as a dark-horse candidate. With 18 catches for 201 yards, Whittington has a similar physical profile to Robinson, unlike the smaller Atwell. Additionally, Whittington remains under contract after 2024, making him a potential long-term option alongside Puka Nacua as the Rams consider life after Cooper Kupp.
With veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford nearing the end of his career, the Rams remain focused on making a postseason push this season. At the same time, they have an opportunity to evaluate Whittington’s potential as a future contributor in their offense.
