Lions HC Dan Campbell Deliver Sharp Warning to Team’s Star Player

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell has expressed concerns over his star player potentially giving away critical team information.

Campbell’s remarks came after running back Jahmyr Gibbs inadvertently shared a video featuring teammate Jermar Jefferson. In the background, a whiteboard was visible, reportedly displaying the team’s pass protections and offensive plays. While the leak appeared unintentional, Campbell delivered a stern warning to Gibbs about exercising greater caution in the future.

Dan Campbell Responds to Social Media Leak

Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports highlighted that Gibbs’ video, posted over the weekend, showed Jefferson in front of a whiteboard containing codes for drop-back protections and specific offensive calls.

The video surfaced Saturday, just days after the Lions’ Thanksgiving victory over the Chicago Bears. When asked about the matter, Campbell initially seemed unaware of the situation but made it clear he would address it.

“Oh, I didn’t know that,” Campbell said when a reporter informed him. “Yeah, I need to check on that then. Did not know that. I’d rather our stuff not be out there.”

Gibbs a Key Figure in Detroit’s Offense

Despite the mishap, Gibbs has been a crucial part of the Lions’ offense this season. Through 12 games, the second-year running back has already surpassed his rookie numbers, racking up 973 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns. He’s also contributed 28 receptions for 282 yards and a receiving touchdown.

Gibbs Benched During Thanksgiving Win

Gibbs faced challenges in the Lions’ Thanksgiving game against the Bears, losing a fumble and dropping a pass that could have extended the team’s early 16-0 lead.

As the Bears mounted a second-half comeback, Gibbs spent much of the half on the bench. He recorded only two carries and one reception after halftime, while veteran David Montgomery took on a larger role.

Campbell downplayed the uneven distribution of snaps, explaining it was more about the offense’s overall struggles than a deliberate benching of Gibbs.

“No, not really. I mean, I think it was more; we kind of cycled those guys, and David (Montgomery) was kind of in rotation, and then we just didn’t get a lot of plays,” Campbell said. “We had two of those drives that were stall-outs. We had a three-and-out and a four-and-out, or I guess both of ‘em may have been a four-and-out, and so it just didn’t quite work out really quickly.”

Lions Secure Important Win

Although Detroit nearly lost its lead, with the Bears running out of time on a potential game-tying drive, the Lions’ win was critical for their playoff push. The victory marked their 10th straight win and gave them a two-game lead over the Philadelphia Eagles for the NFC’s top seed.
