The Detroit Lions secured a pivotal 34-31 victory against the Green Bay Packers on Thursday Night Football in Week 14. With the win, Dan Campbell’s squad improved to an impressive 12-1, locking in the NFC’s No. 1 seed through 14 weeks. The Lions, riding a franchise-record 11-game winning streak after a 1-1 start, are now set to host the Buffalo Bills in Week 15 at Ford Field in what many are calling a potential Super Bowl preview.
Detroit’s offense remains one of the most explosive units in the NFL. While much of the credit often goes to quarterback Jared Goff, the dynamic running back duo of David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs, and star wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, third-year receiver Jameson Williams has been steadily emerging as a key playmaker.
Though Williams has faced his share of off-field challenges early in his career, his raw talent is undeniable. The No. 12 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft has become one of the league’s most electrifying young players, averaging 18.2 yards per catch in 11 games this season—a mark that ranks among the league’s top five. In 2024, Williams has tallied 39 catches for 710 yards and four touchdowns.
In the Week 14 matchup against Green Bay, Williams delivered another strong performance, leading Detroit in receiving yards with 80 on five catches. While Williams thrived, the same couldn’t be said for Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed, who was targeted only once and failed to record a single catch during Green Bay’s loss.
Reed’s struggles came after some bold trash talk earlier in the season. During an appearance on the St. Brown Podcast on October 11, Reed told Lions star Amon-Ra St. Brown to “wait till I come to Detroit,” referencing the Packers’ Week 14 visit to Ford Field. That comment spectacularly backfired, and Jameson Williams wasted no time calling Reed out for his lackluster performance.
Under an Instagram post by Bleacher Report Betting, Williams roasted Reed by sarcastically asking whether the second-round pick had actually shown up in Detroit. Reed responded by telling Williams to “do his homework” on career stats. Not one to back down, Williams clapped back, saying that a player is only as good as their last game, pointing to Reed’s zero-yard night in Detroit.
The Lions-Packers rivalry has grown increasingly intense in recent years, and Jameson Williams’ fiery comments have only added more fuel to the fire.
