The Detroit Lions have solidified their position as the clear favorites to represent the NFC in Super Bowl LIX.
They’ve demonstrated their championship potential by winning games in various ways, a hallmark of a top-tier team.
On Thursday Night Football, the Lions secured a pivotal 34-31 victory over the Green Bay Packers to open Week 14.
It was a thrilling contest, with momentum swinging back and forth. The Packers, led by timely plays from Jordan Love and Josh Jacobs, came close to pushing the game into overtime. However, Jared Goff and the Lions offense delivered in the final minute, positioning the team for a game-winning field goal.
Head coach Dan Campbell, known for his boldness on fourth downs, made another gutsy decision late in the game. Facing fourth-and-inches, Campbell opted to go for it, ensuring the Packers didn’t regain possession of the ball.
The move ultimately worked, but analysts, including Bill Cowher, urged Campbell to show more trust in his defense. Speaking on NFL on CBS, Cowher said, “At some point, you have to trust that defense. You have to trust Aaron Glenn.”
Cowher acknowledged Campbell’s success with his aggressive play-calling but cautioned that there would be moments when relying on the defense might be the wiser choice.
Defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn has been instrumental in organizing the unit this season, and Cowher believes their time to shine is just around the corner.
