The Detroit Lions are gearing up for a high-stakes clash against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, November 15. As expected, the build-up to a game like this has brought some heated banter, and one Lions player couldn’t resist responding to the chatter.
Unlike the usual player-to-player exchanges, this time the smack talk came from a fan—and the Lions player had something to say.
Detroit Lions Cornerback Fires Back
On Thursday, December 13, Lions cornerback Amik Robertson noticed a fan on social media predicting that Bills wide receiver Khalil Shakir would dominate him. The fan claimed Shakir would surpass all his projected stats for the game and even said they were betting on it.
Robertson didn’t let the comment slide. He quoted the post with a sharp, concise reply:
“Goodluck…..”
Fans rallied behind Robertson’s response. One commented, “Tell ’em.” Another chimed in with, “He going to need more than luck,” followed by “seatbelt season,” a nod to Robertson’s strong coverage skills.
Robertson’s performance this season backs up his confidence. Pro Football Focus (PFF) ranks him 21st in run defense out of 204 cornerbacks, and he’s allowing a 91.9 passer rating when under pressure in coverage.
Bills Coaches Praise Lions Ahead of Matchup
As the Lions and Bills prepare for Sunday’s showdown, Buffalo’s coaching staff is showing respect for Detroit’s impressive season. The Lions, sitting at 11-1, have become one of the NFL’s hottest teams. With their reputation, it’s no surprise that the Bills are taking them seriously.
Detroit’s lethal running back duo, David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs, leads the league in production. Together, they’ve racked up 24 total touchdowns this season, with Gibbs also adding two receiving scores.
Speaking about the challenge of containing Montgomery and Gibbs, Bills defensive coordinator Bobby Babich emphasized the importance of sticking to the fundamentals.
“We just got to get back to our basics, back to our fundamentals and what our jobs are within each defense,” Babich said in comments shared by Lions writer Tim Twentyman. “There’s a lot of good running backs in this league. I know these two that we’re about to go against, I think a lot of people consider them as the best duo in the league. They’re certainly going to be a challenge.”
Still, Babich is confident in his defense: “I believe our guys are up to the challenge, and they’re ready to respond.”
Mutual Respect Between Coaches
Lions head coach Dan Campbell has also shared his thoughts on Bills quarterback Josh Allen, calling him a more “patient” player this season. Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady agreed with Campbell’s assessment, adding his own praise for the Lions’ leader.
“I shared a room with Dan for one year in New Orleans. Dan is as good as it gets,” Brady said. “He sees football in an incredible way. The way you kind of see Josh playing and understanding—there’s a lot of plays he made out there (Sunday) that not a lot of people on the planet can make, right?”
As Sunday approaches, the mutual respect between the Lions and Bills coaching staffs sets the stage for what promises to be a thrilling game.
