The Ohio State Buckeyes have experienced significant player movement in the NCAA transfer portal this offseason. From prominent names like Air Noland and Devin Brown to lesser-known players, several Buckeyes have decided to continue their careers elsewhere.
While head coach Ryan Day and his staff have brought in talented players through the portal to bolster the roster, another Buckeye appears set to finalize his next destination.
According to a report from Chris Hummer of 247 Sports, defensive back Calvin Simpson-Hunt is expected to transfer to the Baylor Bears.
Simpson-Hunt isn’t one of the marquee names leaving Ohio State.
Over two seasons with the Buckeyes, Simpson-Hunt recorded just four total tackles and did not register any other notable statistics.
A member of the 2023 recruiting class, Simpson-Hunt was a four-star prospect from Waxahachie, Texas. He was ranked as the No. 7 cornerback in his class and the No. 89 overall recruit nationally.
When he initially committed to Ohio State, Simpson-Hunt was projected to become a key contributor to the defense. However, he hasn’t lived up to those expectations during his first two seasons in Columbus.
Transferring to Baylor could provide Simpson-Hunt with a chance for a much larger role on the field. At Ohio State, he found himself stuck behind a talented secondary that limited his opportunities.
As with any Buckeye who transfers, the hope is that Simpson-Hunt finds success in his new opportunity. Barring a matchup against Ohio State, fans will likely cheer for him to thrive and fulfill his potential.
With this development, another Ohio State transfer has found his destination, and fortunately for Buckeye fans, it’s not within the Big Ten.
