The Detroit Lions are in search of a new defensive coordinator following Aaron Glenn’s departure, and a two-time Super Bowl champion is among their candidates.
Larry Foote, former NFL linebacker and current linebackers coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, is expected to interview for the Lions’ defensive coordinator role, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.
Foote has been with the Buccaneers since 2019, serving as both the linebackers coach and pass game coordinator. Prior to his tenure in Tampa Bay, he spent four years as an assistant coach with the Arizona Cardinals.
During his 13-season NFL career, Foote played one season with the Detroit Lions in 2009, after spending the majority of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was an integral part of their Super Bowl championship teams in 2005 and 2008.
A Detroit native and University of Michigan alum, Foote was drafted by the Steelers in the fourth round of the 2002 NFL Draft.
Glenn was recently named the head coach of the New York Jets, and the Lions have also lost Ben Johnson, who became the head coach of the Chicago Bears. With Dan Campbell now revamping the coaching staff, Foote is a strong candidate to join the new team.
