TCU continues its strong recruiting run with the addition of Amontre Harris, a 2026 EDGE rusher from Summer Creek High School in Houston, TX. Harris becomes the Horned Frogs’ seventh commit in the class and fifth from Texas in January, choosing TCU over offers from SMU, Houston, and Tulsa.
At 6’4” and 220 pounds, Harris had a standout junior season, recording 52 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, and 10 sacks. His height, frame, and athleticism make him a promising defensive prospect. He possesses very good acceleration, explosiveness, flexibility, and lateral movement, along with solid foot speed and change-of-direction ability.
Pass Rush Ability
Harris excels as a pass rusher with a quick first step, using his explosiveness to gain depth and maintain good pad level. He engages offensive tackles with strong hand placement, allowing him to read the play while creating leverage. His speed rush is effective, showing good cornering speed and bend to slip past blockers using a rip move. He also has a solid inside rip move and a developing bull rush to collapse the pocket. Harris finishes well, displaying good grip strength to bring down quarterbacks and disrupt plays.
Run Defense
Against the run, Harris showcases good lateral movement and strength to maintain his gap integrity. He plays with high effort and competitive toughness, pursuing plays with intensity and fighting through blocks until the whistle.
Development & Projection
To reach his full potential, Harris will need to expand his pass-rush arsenal, refining his power moves and adding more counters to complement his speed. However, his natural athleticism and motor should allow him to compete for early rotational reps at TCU, with the potential to develop into a starting-caliber EDGE defender at the Power Four level.
