WNBA Star Posts Two-Word Message After Major Trade

Satou Sabally wanted out of the Dallas Wings, and she got her wish when the team traded her to the Phoenix Mercury on Friday. Now, the WNBA star appears eager for the next chapter in her career.

Sabally was a free agent, but since the Wings cored her—giving them exclusive negotiating rights—she had to be moved via trade. As a result, Dallas sent her to Phoenix in a three-team deal that also involved the Indiana Fever. In the trade, the Mercury acquired Sabally along with Kalani Brown and Sevgi Uzun. Meanwhile, the Wings received Ty Harris, NaLyssa Smith, the rights to Mikiah Herbert Harrigan, and the No. 8 pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, which previously belonged to the Fever. Indiana, on the other hand, landed Sophie Cunningham and the No. 19 pick.

Following the trade announcement, Sabally took to social media to share her reaction. On her Instagram Stories, she posted an edited photo of herself in a Mercury jersey alongside Kahleah Copper and Alyssa Thomas, whom Phoenix recently acquired in a trade with the Connecticut Sun. She captioned the image with a simple yet powerful message: “New beginnings,” accompanied by a black heart emoji.

Drafted second overall by the Wings in 2020, Sabally has averaged 15.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.1 steals per game in her career. A two-time All-Star and one-time All-WNBA First Team selection, she was also named the league’s Most Improved Player in 2023, the same season she finished among the top five MVP candidates.

It remains to be seen how Sabally will fit into a Mercury squad that has undergone significant changes this offseason, including the departure of Brittney Griner. However, one thing is certain: she is eager for this fresh start.
