Aidan Hutchinson Weighs In on Lions Possibly Trading for Myles Garrett

Feb 8, 2025 #Dave Birkett

Earlier this week, Myles Garrett shocked the NFL world by announcing that he had requested a trade from the Cleveland Browns. Almost immediately, speculation began about potential landing spots, with the Detroit Lions quickly emerging as a possible suitor.

It’s no surprise that the Lions were mentioned in the discussion. The team is actively seeking help at edge rusher, and Garrett is one of the best in the league at the position.

However, one of the Lions’ biggest stars doesn’t seem convinced that a trade for Garrett is the right move.

Speaking with the Detroit Free Press’ Dave Birkett, Lions edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson was asked about the possibility of Garrett joining the team. Hutchinson didn’t seem enthusiastic and downplayed the chances of it happening.

“Everyone’s asking me about that. I don’t know,” Hutchinson said. “I don’t think — you can’t have that many dudes on one D-line, I don’t know. Who knows, but I think it’s very unlikely.”

His comments may cool some of the speculation surrounding Garrett and the Lions, at least for now.

Of course, several obstacles would need to be cleared before any trade could happen—including the Browns actually being willing to move Garrett. Now, Hutchinson’s hesitation adds another potential roadblock.

Having multiple star pass rushers didn’t seem to be an issue for the Chargers this season, as their duo of Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa helped lead one of the league’s best defenses.

Still, if Hutchinson isn’t on board with the move, it’s harder to envision the Lions pursuing a blockbuster trade for an edge rusher. Instead, the team may turn to the free agent market to address their pass-rushing needs.
