Chennedy Carter, born on November 14, 1998, in Fort Worth, Texas, is an American professional basketball player known for her dynamic scoring ability and on-court tenacity. She honed her skills at Timberview High School in Arlington, Texas, where she earned McDonald’s All-American honors and was ranked as the number six prospect in espnW’s HoopGurlz Top 100. Her exceptional performance led her to Texas A&M University, where she played from 2017 to 2020. During her collegiate career, Carter became a three-time First-team All-SEC selection and received multiple All-American honors.
In the 2020 WNBA Draft, Carter was selected fourth overall by the Atlanta Dream, marking the highest draft pick in Texas A&M’s history. She made an immediate impact in her rookie season, becoming the youngest player in WNBA history to score 30 points in a game at 21 years and 266 days old. Her impressive debut earned her a spot on the 2020 WNBA All-Rookie Team.
However, Carter’s professional journey faced challenges. In July 2021, she was suspended indefinitely by the Dream for “conduct detrimental to the team,” following reports of on-court altercations. This suspension led to her being traded to the Los Angeles Sparks for the 2022 season. Despite showing potential, Carter’s tenure with the Sparks was short-lived; she was waived in March 2023 after playing 24 games.
Seeking to revitalize her career, Carter took her talents overseas. She played for Bursa in Turkey and later joined Heilongjiang in the Women’s Chinese Basketball Association (WCBA), where she led the league in scoring with an average of 28.9 points per game. In the 2024–2025 season, Carter signed with Wuhan Shengfan in the WCBA and continued her stellar performance, averaging 31.4 points per game and recording a triple-double on January 20, 2025.
Carter’s journey reflects a blend of remarkable talent and resilience, navigating both accolades and adversities in her professional basketball career.
