Angel Reese brought her mother to tears with a heartfelt birthday surprise.
The Chicago Sky star invited her mom, Angel Webb Reese, onto her Unapologetically Angel podcast this week.
After presenting her with a birthday cake, Reese revealed an even bigger surprise—she had paid off her mother’s mortgage in full.
“Today your mortgage has been paid,” Reese told her stunned mom. “You ain’t gotta worry about your mortgage no more. And if you want to still work and keep yourself busy, you can keep yourself busy.”
Overcome with emotion, her mother began crying before the two shared a hug.
Reese then sang “Happy Birthday” as her mom took in the life-changing news.
A Special Gift for Her Mom and Plans for Her Own Home
Along with taking care of her mother’s mortgage, Reese also shared that she plans to buy her own home in Chicago this year.
“You can come stay with me whenever you want to,” she told her mom.
This thoughtful gesture comes after Reese previously opened up about her WNBA salary, revealing that it doesn’t fully cover her $8,000-per-month rent.
“Hating pays my bills, baby. I just hope you know the WNBA don’t pay my bills at all. I don’t even think that pays one of my bills,” she said on Instagram. “Literally, I’m trying to think of my rent for where I stay at. I’m gonna do the math real quick. I don’t even know my salary.”
“Yo, I’m living beyond my means! No, my rent is more than that. It’s $8,000. I’m living beyond my means.”
Salary, Endorsements, and Unrivaled League
As a rookie, Reese made $73,439 with the Chicago Sky, but her salary is set to increase to $148,348 this season.
Beyond her WNBA earnings, she has lucrative endorsement deals with brands like Reebok, Reese’s, and Beats by Dre.
She’s also competing in the newly launched Unrivaled Basketball League, which guarantees its players six-figure salaries.
Reese will kick off her second WNBA season on May 17 in a highly anticipated matchup against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever.
