WNBA star Diana Taurasi’s retirement has sparked an outpouring of admiration from fellow athletes and fans alike.

“I just didn’t have it in me,” the 42-year-old Phoenix Mercury guard shared in an exclusive interview with Time published on Tuesday, Feb. 25, explaining her decision to step away from the game.

Taurasi typically begins her training camp preparations on January 1, but this year, she found she wasn’t up for it.

“That was pretty much when I knew it was time to walk away,” she told the magazine.

“Mentally and physically, I’m just full,” she added. “That’s probably the best way I can describe it. I’m full, and I’m happy.”
