Kelsey Mitchell, born on November 12, 1995, in Cincinnati, Ohio, has established herself as a prominent figure in women’s basketball. Her journey began at Princeton High School in Sharonville, Ohio, where she earned accolades such as Ohio Ms. Basketball and Division I Player of the Year in 2014. Recognized as the nation’s top point guard by ESPN, she was also a McDonald’s All-American.
Continuing her career at Ohio State University from 2014 to 2018, Mitchell made history by becoming the fastest player in NCAA history to reach 2,000 career points, achieving this milestone in just 79 games. She concluded her collegiate tenure with 3,402 points, ranking second in NCAA Division I history at the time. Mitchell was a four-time Associated Press All-American and a three-time Big Ten Player of the Year, setting an NCAA record with 497 made three-pointers.
In the 2018 WNBA Draft, the Indiana Fever selected Mitchell as the second overall pick. She quickly became a cornerstone for the team, earning a spot on the WNBA All-Rookie Team in her debut season. Over her seven-season tenure with the Fever, Mitchell has been a consistent offensive force, averaging 19.2 points per game in the 2024 season and leading the team to its first playoff appearance since 2016. Her leadership and performance have been recognized with back-to-back WNBA All-Star selections in 2023 and 2024.
Off the court, Mitchell’s commitment to community service was honored with the Dawn Staley Community Leadership Award in 2023. She also achieved a personal milestone by earning a master’s degree in sports administration from the University of Cincinnati in 2020.
In January 2025, Mitchell reaffirmed her dedication to the Indiana Fever by re-signing with the team on a one-year supermax contract. This decision ensures that the dynamic trio of Mitchell, Caitlin Clark, and Aliyah Boston remains intact, positioning the Fever as strong contenders for the upcoming season under new head coach Stephanie White.
