The Los Angeles Sparks are making swift moves to reshape their roster after acquiring Kelsey Plum in a blockbuster WNBA trade. Plum, a two-time WNBA champion and three-time All-Star, joined the Sparks from the Las Vegas Aces in a deal that sent shockwaves through the league. With the high-scoring guard now wearing purple and gold, Los Angeles is doubling down on its roster transformation by adding key pieces to complement its new star.
As reported by LA Sparks PR, the team has signed forwards Emma Cannon and Anneli Maley, reinforcing its frontcourt depth in pursuit of WNBA contention.
Emma Cannon’s WNBA Journey
Cannon, a 6-foot-2 forward, has played 114 regular-season games, including 11 starts, across six WNBA seasons with four teams. She has averaged 5.3 points and 3.2 rebounds per game.
She began her WNBA career with the Phoenix Mercury in 2017 after playing professionally overseas. Since then, she has suited up for the Las Vegas Aces, Connecticut Sun, and Indiana Fever. Cannon’s most recent WNBA action came last season, when she appeared in five games during her second stint with the Aces.
Anneli Maley’s Rising Career
Maley, a Melbourne, Australia native, started her professional career in 2020 with the Sydney Flames in Australia’s WNBL. She quickly made a name for herself, earning WNBL Most Valuable Player honors in 2022 with the Bendigo Spirit.
That same year, Maley made her WNBA debut with the Chicago Sky, appearing in four games and averaging 2.0 points and 1.8 rebounds while shooting 50% from the field.
Sparks’ Championship Aspirations
These latest moves highlight the Sparks’ aggressive approach to rebuilding a competitive squad around Plum. After missing the playoffs last season, Los Angeles is constructing a roster with a strong balance of scoring, rebounding, and defensive versatility.
With Plum leading the backcourt and Cannon and Maley strengthening the frontcourt, the Sparks are making a bold statement: they are far from finished. Expect more moves as Los Angeles continues its push to turn an offseason splash into a legitimate championship pursuit.
