Owen Hargreaves and Rio Ferdinand both forecast the same spot Manchester United will finish in the Premier League

For Manchester United’s 2024–25 Premier League campaign, both Rio Ferdinand and Owen Hargreaves have made some insightful predictions about the Red Devils’ manager, Erik ten Hag. Before he began his third season as Manchester United’s manager, Erik ten Hag inked a new deal extension.

The 54-year-old Dutchman led United to a third-place finish in the 2022-23 Premier League season after his arrival from Dutch side Ajax in 2022.

However, Ten Hag oversaw United’s worst league finish in the Premier League era in the 2023-24 campaign, with the Red Devils ending the season in eighth place.

United were able to secure Europa League football for the 2024-25 campaign after Ten Hag’s men defeated Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley in May.

Ineos launched an end-of-season review after the FA Cup final and opted to retain Ten Hag in the Old Trafford hot seat, despite the poor league form last season.

Ferdinand and Hargreaves’ Man Utd prediction

Manchester United will begin their Premier League campaign on Friday when they host Fulham at Old Trafford, with kick-off slated for 8pm UK time.

Speaking on TNT Sports, Rio Ferdinand and Owen Hargreaves both revealed their top-four Premier League predictions ahead of the 2024-25 campaign.

Ferdinand has backed Arsenal to thwart Manchester City’s hopes of capturing an unprecedented fifth Premier League title in a row next season.

The 45-year-old United legend had defending champions City second and Liverpool third before putting the Red Devils in the final top-four spot.

“And there’s my top four there, I’m gonna go with that,” Ferdinand said.

“Man United improving on that eighth position of last season to [the] top four but I’ve got a sneaky feeling about Arsenal.”

Hargreaves, unlike Ferdinand, had Pep Guardiola’s City side winning the Premier League title again and Arsenal finishing runners-up next season.

The 43-year-old TNT Sports then agreed with Ferdinand over Liverpool and United finishing third and fourth respectively in the league table.

“Chelsea, I wouldn’t have them [in the top four]. I don’t know what’s gonna happen with Chelsea,” Hargreaves said.

“I think United are gonna be a lot better as well. Their recruitment’s been good, so…”

Ten Hag’s Premier League ambitions

Erik ten Hag has previously made his feelings clear that he wants to see United returning back to the top of English football and challenging for a league title.

The Red Devils haven’t lifted the Premier League title since legendary former manager Sir Alex Ferguson bowed out of Old Trafford in 2013.

Speaking to Manchester United’s official website in July, Ten Hag said: “We’re working on this. I said it, and it’s a fact: United didn’t win, for over six years, a trophy.

“Now we’ve won two, but we are up for more and for higher titles, like the English title and even more, like going into Europe.

“That’s a process that takes time, and we’ll work on it, but I know with the set-up at the club, with the changes to the structure, and the changes to infrastructure here around Carrington, we will be ready for the future. We will improve.

“You feel it here, it gives a new energy, it gives a new dynamic and that will help us to achieve our targets.

“In the short-term, it stays the same: we want to win every game, and we have seen we are capable of beating everyone.”
